Concord Ave, Belmont, MA | 2012
At YGS DD With Andrew Hartness from Hartness Vision LLC
A proposal for a mixed use multifamily housing for mixed income population on Concord Ave in Belmont MA. The site has been abandoned for many years and the community has been eager to develop it. It is located within a larger residential area, but is zoned for business. The proposal preserves a certain portion of the existing building on site, and builds on top of it to a higher density, with a commercial ground floor accessible directly from the street, and top 2 residential floors with variety of apartment layouts and sizes from studio to 3 bedrooms. Parking for the residential component is provided on ground at the back of the site, and for the commercial component in front of the building. The entrances to the residential units are oriented to the sides of the building as well as from the covered parking. The stepped unit organization allows for views and terraces for some of the units and is making use of green roofs to achieve a sustainable design. A large green wall covers the public access corridors and is oriented toward Concord ave as vertical landscaped gardens.
